J.T. Wolohan is currently a Director of Machine Learning at the Prudential Insurance Company. Prior to this, he advanced through a number of roles of increasing responsibility in software engineering, data engineering, data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence. J.T. spent a number of years with Booz Allen Hamilton, developing and deploying artificial intelligence solutions for the United States government, including work for technology and data intensive organizations such as NASA and U.S. Census Bureau.
Academically, J.T. is an alumnus of both Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts and Indiana University's Luddy School of Informatics and Computing. At the latter, J.T. pursued Ph.D. research into artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and the application of those techniques to the assessment of mental illness: anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress.
J.T. is the author of two books: Mastering Large Datasets with Python, published by Manning in 2020; and Sport Analytics, published by Kendall Hunt in 2021. Mastering Large Datasets is an introduction to the principles of data engineering and data-first programming for data scientists. Sport Analytics is a textbook on the eponymous subject; the first of its kind providing sport analytics students a survey of the field from important multi-disciplinary perspectives, including data science, economics, and game theory.
J.T. lives in greater Washington, D.C., where he is an hobbyist runner and a regular finisher of the D.C. and Baltimore half marathons.
